HKGCC
SUPPORTS DETAILS OF IMPORTATION OF
MAINLAND IT AND FINANCIAL PROFESSIONALS
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce
(HKGCC) strongly supports the SAR Government's details on the importation of qualified
Mainland professionals to Hong Kong in the information technology (IT) and financial
services sectors.
The Chairman of HKGCC, Mr Christopher
Cheng, said, "We strongly support the Government's plan of admitting Mainland
professionals to work in the SAR, in particular for the information technology and
financial services fields. Instead of taking away jobs from Hong Kong people, these people
fill a critical gap, and their contribution will have the effect of creating more jobs for
Hong Kong.”
"We are pleased to see there is no
quota or ceiling in the scheme. A knowledge-based economy competes using manpower, and
Hong Kong needs all the critical human resources it can get." Mr Cheng added.
HKGCC believes that it is inappropriate to
adopt a minimum wage policy for a world class city like Hong Kong that is so
market-economy driven. Instead, the relative wages for comparable professionals around
other competitive regions and within our own city should be a company’s reference when determining the wage level.
HKGCC in fact holds the position that in
the future, this liberalization of mainland professionals should extend to other fields
beyond IT and financial services to any sector where there is a shortage.
